ATO Tanzania Presents Agricultural Master Plan at Tanzania Food Dialogue  

AGRA in partnership with Ministry of Agriculture and Ministry of Livestock & Fisheries Tanzania, convened an inaugural Tanzania Food Systems Dialogue in Dar Es Salaam.  

The convention focused on identifying key priorities and investment opportunities to transform Tanzania’s food systems and marked a significant milestone in the nation’s journey towards a more robust and sustainable food system.   

The Director of the Agricultural Transformation Office (ATO), Elizabeth Missokia presented the Agricultural Master Plan (AMP) at the opening of the high-level plenary as the guiding document for the transformation of Tanzania’s agricultural sector.  

“The Agriculture Masterplan (AMP), soon to be officialized, is a catalytic roadmap designed to drive food systems transformation in Tanzania through 2050. It aims to position agriculture as a critical sector supporting Tanzania’s ambition to become a higher middle-income country by 2050,” Ms Missoika.  

As part of his remarks, Hon. Hussein Bashe, Minister for Agriculture of Tanzania expressed his Ministry’s commitment to use the AMP as the road map to guide the Ministry’s work in aligning with the country’s Vision 2050. To embrace the AMP, participants were given the opportunity during breakout sessions to talk about AMP flagships, especially on soil health, finance and inclusion of women and youth through BBT. Minister Bashe also informed the gathering that the AMP was set to be launched during ‘Nane Nane’ celebrations in August 2024. 

Dignitaries in attendance included H.E Hailemariam Desalegn, Chair, AGRA and Africa Food Systems Forum Partner Group and Former Prime Minister of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, Ms. Sara Mbago-Bhuno, IFAD Regional Director for East and Southern Africa amongst others. Dr. David Nabarro, COP28 Presidency addressed the audience virtually.
