On September 4th, 2024, the African Agricultural Transformation Initiative (AATI), in partnership with the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security of Sierra Leone, celebrated the launch of the Agriculture Transformation Office (ATO) during the Africa Food Systems Forum 2024 in Kigali, Rwanda. This event marked a pivotal moment in Sierra Leone’s journey towards sustainable agricultural growth, food security, and economic development.
A Landmark Milestone for Sierra Leone
The ATO will play a critical role in supporting the implementation of Sierra Leone’s “Feed Salone” strategy, a flagship initiative designed to revolutionize agriculture and achieve food sovereignty. The ATO will guide the country’s agricultural development by identifying key areas for transformative interventions, facilitating policy alignment, and fostering partnerships with both national and international stakeholders.

A core mission of the ATO is to empower marginalized groups, particularly women and youth, who are vital to Sierra Leone’s agricultural transformation. These groups will be placed at the center of agricultural reforms and provided with the necessary resources, knowledge, and tools to thrive. This focus on inclusivity will not only foster economic growth but also create sustainable, long-term opportunities for Sierra Leone’s rural communities.

The Power of Partnerships
