Women: The Backbone of Sierra Leone’s Agricultural Transformation

Women play a vital role in Sierra Leone’s agricultural sector, driving food security, economic growth, and sustainable development. With the right resources—finance, land rights, technology, and leadership opportunities—women farmers can transform agriculture and strengthen our food systems.

“The future of agriculture depends on women because they are the backbone of our food systems, the stewards of our natural resources, and the leaders of change.”
— Dr. Tenneh Dick, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food Security

To achieve this transformation, AATI and the Agricultural Transformation Office (ATO) in Sierra Leone are working closely with the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security to close gender gaps in agriculture through the Feed Salone initiative. By ensuring women farmers have the tools they need, we can unlock their full potential and drive lasting change.

“When women have access to finance, land rights, technology, and leadership opportunities, their lives are not only transformed but also drive sustainable development, food security, and innovation.”
— Dr. Tenneh Dick, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food Security

This International Women’s Day, we reaffirm our commitment to empowering women farmers and accelerating action for a more inclusive agricultural sector.
