The 47th Annual TSAP Conference, held at Olasit Garden Hotel, 23-25 October 2024 brought together experts, innovators, and policymakers in the animal production sector for three days of insightful discussions, transformative ideas, and practical solutions. This year’s conference focused on advancing sustainable practices, enhancing market readiness, and expanding opportunities for youth and women in agribusiness.

- Innovations in Livestock Health
Experts showcased breakthroughs aimed at safeguarding livestock health from advanced vaccines to rapid disease diagnostic tools. The Tanzania Veterinary Laboratory Agency (TVLA) led discussions on expanding disease surveillance, marking a huge step towards more resilient animal production.
- Quality Standards in Animal Feed
Quality feed is essential for quality products! Panelists emphasized the role of standardizing feed production to prevent drug resistance and improve overall livestock productivity. A proposed platform for feed producers promises to enhance transparency and elevate industry standards nationwide.
- Green & Sustainable Practices
Eco-friendly livestock management stole the show! Presenters discussed waste-to-energy projects and regenerative grazing techniques, which reduce the environmental footprint of animal production. Real-life success stories demonstrated how sustainability benefits both the environment and the bottom line.
- Youth & Women Empowerment
Youth and women are at the heart of Tanzania’s agribusiness future. Sessions highlighted accessible finance options, mentorship programs, and training for young and female entrepreneurs. This is paving the way for a new generation of innovators in animal production.
- Positioning Tanzania for Export Markets
To meet international demand, TSAP stressed enhancing market readiness, aligning with export standards, and reducing production costs. Capacity-building programs and strategic policies are set to position Tanzania as a competitive player in the global market.
The conference demonstrated that Tanzania’s animal production sector is rapidly evolving, with stakeholders committed to sustainability, quality, and inclusivity. Together, we’re building a stronger future for Tanzanian agriculture!
Jeremiah Temu, Lead Livestock and Fisheries, and Francis Ndumbaro, Livestock Analyst at the Agricultural Transformation Office (ATO) Tanzania attended the conference and in alignment with ATO’s vision for sustainable growth and improved livelihoods, aim to use the knowledge acquired to foster innovations that will contribute to a new and impactful phase for Tanzania’s agribusiness sector.
