Towards climate adaptive agriculture
May 8th 2023, Washington – Policymakers, industry leaders, producers, civil society groups, and scientists and researchers from across the globe converged on Washington DC for the AIM for climate summit. The summit brought together partners to increase and accelerate investment in and support for agriculture and food systems innovation for climate action.
Ms. Safia Boly, Executive Director, African Agricultural Transformation Initiative (AATI), attended the summit and met with several agricultural stakeholders including Syngenta Foundation, AGRA, African Union Commission, United States Department of Agriculture, USAID, Adaptation Fund, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Pivot Bio and KickStart International. They discussed innovative tools and strategies promoted and developed by AATI to tackle the nexus between agriculture and climate change, as well as climate adaptive techniques for African small-holder farmers.
‘The African continent is the most vulnerable to the impact of climate change. Adopting climate resilient agricultural practices would improve the continents capacity to reduce its susceptibility to challenges such as shortened seasons and unpredictable weather patterns.’ Safia Boly, Executive Director AATI.
The AATI partners with governments, private sector, and civil society to develop the National Agriculture Delivery units required to improve implementation of strategic agricultural initiatives with the final objective of alleviating poverty, promoting food security and strengthening climate resilience.
