From November 21–23, 2024, the Agricultural Transformation Office (ATO) engaged with the trade mission from Wisconsin focused on livestock genetics. The mission was organized by the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection and coordinated by the U.S. Embassies in Nairobi and Dar es Salaam.
During the meeting, ATO presented Flagship No. 5 of the Agricultural Master Plan (AMP) 2050, which aims to enhance red meat and dairy farmers’ market access through viable offtake volumes and improved product quality. Key initiatives include empowering smallholders to raise 2.3 million improved indigenous and cross-bred animals by 2030.
In addition to exploring investment opportunities, the Wisconsin delegation announced plans to support the National Artificial Insemination Center (NAIC) by them on Multiple Ovulation and Embryo Transfer (MoET) techniques and identifying surrogate mothers. This initiative is contingent on securing the necessary funding.
This collaboration highlights a shared commitment to overcoming challenges in livestock genetics, promoting sustainable practices, and building a brighter future for Tanzania’s agricultural sector.
