Ms. Safia Boly, Executive Director, African Agricultural Transformation Initiative (AATI), and Ms. Manouk Overkamp, Partnerships Officer, AATI, visited Freetown, Sierra Leone from 24-27 September 2023 to provide further details on the value proposition of AATI and to explore how the initiative may contribute to the ongoing agricultural transformation efforts of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (MAFS).
In the framework of support to African countries, the African Agricultural Transformation Initiative (AATI) extended an invitation to the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA) Ghana, to participate in an agricultural transformation learning mission in Kenya.

Over the years, Africa's agriculture has faced significant challenges leaving it vulnerable within the global food system. However, modern agriculture is currently undergoing a revolution fuelled by advancements in digital technology and biotechnology solutions that can effectively address global food and nutrition security challenges.
African agriculture is predominantly about smallholders. The transformation of African agriculture is thus first and foremost about how these tens of millions of women and men farm, fish, or raise their livestock.
The Ministry of Agriculture together with the African Agricultural Transformation Initiative (AATI) launched a consultative workshop that will run from 19th – 23rd June, 2023. The aim of the workshop is to explore AATI support to Tanzania’s agricultural transformation agenda, and engage in genuine discussions on the setting up of an Agricultural Transformation Office (ATO) within the Ministry of Agriculture.
Policymakers, industry leaders, producers, civil society groups, and scientists and researchers from across the globe converged on Washington DC for the AIM for climate summit. The summit brought together partners to increase and accelerate investment in and support for agriculture and food systems innovation for climate action.
The AATI held its first annual strategic retreat hosted by the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa.
The launch of the African Agricultural Transformation Initiative (AATI) in July, 2022, presents a unique opportunity to offer solutions to the challenges experienced in the agricultural sector. Over five years (2021-2026), the AATI will seek to establish new (and strengthen existing) national mechanisms designed to enhance delivery of agricultural transformation policies and programmes.
